How to play Blackjack Online?
When it comes down to playing Blackjack online, it’s a relatively simple task. A player plays against a dealer and whoever gets closest to 21 is the winner. While there are a lot of Online Blackjack strategy and tactics out there, the basics behind the game are not too difficult to pick up. On top of this, players can also quite easily improve their skills purely by learning a few simple rules. While this won’t make them an expert, it will cut into the house edge and give players a better chance of walking away with a win.
Basic Blackjack Strategy
Basic Blackjack Strategy is the first real Online Blackjack Strategy that you will need if you want to improve your skills. It’s called basic, but in reality it can get quite complex purely based on the sheer amount of information that you have to remember. If you want to become a high quality online player then the first thing you need to do is learn basic Online Blackjack strategy. While we don’t have enough room to fully cover it here, we can cover some of the most important aspects that should set you on your way to Blackjack mastery.
When to Hit or Stand
Knowing the right time to hit or stand when playing Blackjack is the first most important thing you will learn. While even if you do the right thing, in terms of your statistical probability of winning there is no guarantee you will win the hand, but you can increase your chances. Hitting at the right time and standing at the right time is definitely going to improve your gameplay.
There are rules for when you should stand and hit for every single possible combination. But we’re just going to cover the most important ones. Firstly, you should always stand if you have a hand of 17 or more. Your chances of getting a card that won’t bust you is very slim, so if your hand is that high then you should always stand.
Secondly, you should always hit if you have a hand of ten or less. You cannot bust if your hand is that low and as such, you will definitely improve your hand by hitting.
You can split your cards if you are dealt a pair of cards. So, two 10s will allow you to split. This will then give you two hands instead of one, although you will have to place your stake down again in order to split your hand. When working out an Online Blackjack strategy it’s important to know when you should or shouldn’t split. We’re going to cover the two most important splitting decisions you will have to make.
The first one is if you are dealt two 10s. This can either be two 10s, two Kings, two Queens or two Jacks. In this case, your hand will have a value of 20. It’s not worth splitting the hand at this point because you’re unlikely to create a hand that has a score as good as this hand with your two new hands. So, it means that you will be doubling your wager in order to get two inferior hands. You are much better sticking with your score of 20.
The second one is if you are dealt two 8s. In this case you should split the hand. A 16 is a very difficult hand to play with and by splitting it into two hands of a single 8, you will have a better chance of creating a winning hand, or at least creating two hands with a better score than 16.
Double down isn’t offered at every online casino. But if it is, it can be a good way to further decrease the house edge. Doubling down means that you will double your wager, but in return you will only get one more card and then your turn will be over. There are two main times when you should always double down. The first is when your hand has a total of 10 and the dealer’s face card is less than 10 (Ace is counting as 11 in this example). The second is when you are holding a total of 11 and the dealer isn’t showing an Ace.
The insurance bet is one that you can take when the dealer is showing an Ace. In this case, you will put up half of your stake and if a Blackjack is dealt to the dealer then you will get back odds of 2:1 from what you paid in. There isn’t an Online Blackjack strategy guide in the world that will say you should take the insurance. In fact, do everything that you can to avoid it. It’s a wager that increases the house edge.
The other distinct way to increase your chances of winning when playing Blackjack online is to use a bankroll management strategy. By using one of these strategies you will give yourself a better chance of being able to play through a losing streak. These can happen even if you have perfect Online Blackjack strategy, so it’s important to manage your bankroll to ensure that you can play long enough to get back onto a winning streak.
This is definitely the most famous bankroll management strategy out there. The Martingale strategy is a strategy that works for even money bets, such as playing Blackjack. It is an extremely simple strategy to use and it only requires two things for it to be foolproof. The first is a table that has an unlimited wager limit. The second is a budget that can stretch to high values. This is because the Martingale strategy can lead to you putting on very high bets if you go on a long losing streak.
The premise of the strategy is as follows: Your first wager will be placed at 1 unit, for example MYR 10 could be 1 unit. If you lose that wager then you will double what you bet, so 2 units which would be MYR 20. If you lose again then you would double it again to 4 units which would be MYR 40. This continues until you win a hand. Because Blackjack pays out even money, or 3/2 if you get a Blackjack, then as long as you are able to keep doubling your wager until you win, you will never make a loss.
The 1-3-2-6 strategy is similar to the Martingale strategy, but it is more refined. It allows players to drop their wager level if they are on a bad losing streak, but also gives the opportunity to take advantage of a winning streak by increasing bets. When combined with an Online Blackjack strategy this can reap excellent rewards as the house edge can be lowered to almost zero!
The numbers in the name of the strategy refers to a sequence of betting units. Your first wager will be 1 unit, so MYR 10 for example. If you lose this bet then you will stay at the start of the sequence. If you win the bet then your next wager will be 3 units, so MYR 30. If you win then you carry on to the next step in the sequence, if you lose you go right back to the start. If you manage to make it all the way to the end of the sequence then you start again from the beginning.
Because the wagers increase as you’re winning it means you can ride a winning streak to get bigger payouts, because you drop down to just 1 unit for your wagers you’re limiting your losses and making sure that your bankroll lasts.
Is Card Counting an Option?
Most people will have seen Rain Man and thought that counting cards is a viable option. Put simply, if you’re playing at a brick and mortar casino it is an option. However, when carrying out an Online Blackjack strategy, you can’t really use card counting. This is because the cards are shuffled via software, which means that each hand uses one single deck that is shuffled each time. As such, card counting is useless because the cards never leave the deck.
An Online Blackjack strategy is important if you want to walk away from the table in profit. Blackjack is one of the few games where the skill of the player is important to the outcome of the game. There is still an element of chance involved, but if a player is good enough they can win more often than they lose. That’s why if you want to be a high class Online Blackjack player then you will need to improve your skills.
These are all great starting points to improving your skills and should be memorised completely before you move onto learning full basic Blackjack strategy.
